Urban Revitalization Plan
In an effort to encourage new construction, the City of Epworth has enacted an Urban Revitalization Plan.
Under this Plan, for a period of three years, qualified commercial real estate may be eligible to receive a total exemption from property taxes on improvements. This program is referred to as the Commercial Tax Abatement Program. The City has expanded the exemption to five years for properties in the downtown commercial district that submit plans and receive approval of the Architieural Review Committee. The present plan tax abatement is available indefinitely. Applications are available at City Hall and must be filed with the City for each exemption claimed. The property owner must apply to the City for an exemption by February 1st of the assessment year the exemption is first claimed, but not later than the year all improvements are first assessed for taxation.
